Ford/Lincoln has released updated position statements about the use of OEM glass on their vehicles.
The Use Of Ford OEM Glass position statement and Lincoln Use Of OEM Glass position statements, explain the importance of using OEM glass for safety and the functionality of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
Per the Use Of Ford OEM Glass position statement:
- "Ford Motor Company original equipment parts are designed, engineered, and rigorously tested as integral components of the vehicle's overall safety and performance systems."
- "Bonded windshield glass is a structural member that
helps distribute crash energy. Aftermarket glass has not been tested by Ford Motor Company." - "Ford Motor Company, camera-equipped windshields use precise Ford Motor Company original equipment brackets designed to provide optical clarity and alignment. Ford Motor Company has not tested aftermarket glass, which may not provide accurate camera position or distortion-free vision, which could potentially risk improper ADAS function."
