SAE Advanced Driver Assistance Systems Webinar

On December 10, 2015, the editors of The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) hosted a technical webinar on Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Per the webinar description: "Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) enhance vehicle systems for safety by helping a driver avoid collisions through new technology implementations. In some cases, the systems take over control of the vehicle. ADAS can help automate lighting, provide adaptive cruise control, automate braking, incorporate GPS and traffic warnings, connect to smartphones, alert drivers to other cars or dangers, keep drivers in the correct lane, and show what is in blind spots.

ADAS technology can be based on vision/camera systems, sensor technology, car data networks, and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) or vehicle-to-infrastructure systems. Next-generation ADASs will increasingly leverage wireless network connectivity to offer improved value by using car-to-car and car-to-infrastructure data and could lead to partial or full automation of the driving experience."

The expert panel of speakers included:

  • Jeremy Carlson, Senior Analyst, Autonomous Driving, IHS Automotive
  • André Rolfsmeier, Lead Product Manager, Advanced Applications and Technologies, dSPACE GmbH
  • Michael W. Sayers, CEO and Chief Technology Officer, Mechanical Simulation
  • Andrew Whydell, Director, Product Planning, Global Electronics, ZF TRW Automotive

Topics discussed included:

  • ADAS advancements.
  • the pivotal role of vehicle dynamics in ADAS development.
  • how ADAS testing is being done using simulation.
  • Q&A.

For a limited time, a recording of the presentation is available by going here and logging into your SAE account.
