Sectioning and Partial Part Replacement: 2017 Buick Enclave

One of the top technical inquiries received at Ask I-CAR, “Is there a sectioning or partial replacement procedure available?” To help answer this question, RTS has an OEM Partial Part Replacement Search available. This will give you a good understanding on general areas for sectioning or partial replacement. I-CAR does not have permission to show exact locations for sectioning or the procedure itself.

The Enclave has a single sectioning procedure for the inner front portion of the front lower rail. GM refers to this procedure as Front Compartment Inner Side Rail sectioning. When making the cut, care should be taken not to cut or damage the inner reinforcement. When reattaching the inner front portion of the front lower rail, holes are drilled in the replacement part along the sectioning joint for plug welds. The holes are plug welded and then the butt joint is stitch or skip stitch welded.

The rear rail also has a single sectioning location. The sectioning joint is a butt joint with backing. Plug welds are made on both sides of the sectioning joint and then the butt joint is stitch welded.

The outer uniside has multiple sectioning locations. Procedures include outer A-pillar, outer B-pillar, and outer quarter panel. The rear body panel has a sectioning procedure along with a full part replacement procedure. The full part replacement procedure requires removal of the lower outer quarter panel, the sectioning procedure eliminates that step.
