Ford/Lincoln Part Replacement Without A Procedure

We are often asked, “What do I do if there isn’t a procedure to replace a service part?” Let’s see what Ford/Lincoln says.

Per the Ford Structural Repairs position statement:

  • "All vehicle collision and mechanical repair operations should adhere to procedures and guidelines as specified in Ford Motor Company’s Workshop Manuals, Body Repair Manuals, Technical Service Bulletins, Job Aids and Ford Motor Company’s Original Equipment Part Instruction Sheets."
  • "Where no specific Ford Motor Company procedure exists, structural repairs should be made at original factory joints or seams."

Lincoln has their own Structural Repairs position statement available.

In an Ask I-CAR linking pin answer we received from Ford/Lincoln: "Install as the part is supplied is the general rule. A repair facility may be allowed to partially disassemble a service assembly if Ford engineering has reviewed and approved the repair."

Always reference the vehicle-specific body repair manuals before performing any repairs.
