While researching OEM repair information, you may come across specific notes, instructions, or warnings for high-voltage (HV) vehicles. Some general procedures can be easily overlooked, so it’s important to identify these circumstances. Let’s see what unique considerations FCA/Stellantis has on HV vehicles during a low-voltage disconnect.
The low-voltage system in FCA/Stellantis HV vehicles is supported by an Integrated Dual Charging Module (IDCM), which periodically wakes the HV system to check the low-voltage battery condition to determine if it requires charging. Special considerations must be followed when disconnecting the low-voltage battery.
One thing to keep in mind is that not every HV vehicle has the same low-voltage disconnect procedure.
For a 2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xE plug-in electric vehicle (PHEV), the 12-Volt Power Down procedure requires removing the Intelligent Battery Connector (IBS) and removing a specific fuse.
For a 2025 Dodge Hornet R/T (PHEV), the 12-Volt Power Down-PHEV procedure requires the use of a multimeter to check the battery voltage to determine if the HV relays are disconnected, and the 12-volt negative terminal can be disconnected.
