Toyota/Lexus Introduces Autonomous Level 2 Driving System

Toyota/Lexus released information on the www.pressroom.toyota.com website about the Teammate® advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) technology that debuts on select 2022 Lexus LS 500H models which should be in U.S. dealerships in the fall.

The article details the capabilities of the system and classifies it as an SAE Level 2 system. This classification means the vehicle can perform steering, accelerating, and braking, but is intended to be used with active supervision and control input from the driver.

Some highlights of the system are:

  • Integrated navigation to allow planning for the road ahead
  • Learning functions for adaptability to different driving scenarios
  • Redundant systems for reliability and safety
  • Lane changes
  • Merging and passing
  • Over-the-air software updates for the addition of new features

The article also includes a chart that provides descriptions for each of the features in the ADAS package. Go to www.pressroom.toyota.com for the Teammate Advanced Drive Backgrounder article.
