2020 GM Silverado And Sierra 2500 And 3500 HD Repair Redesigned

The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra vehicles have been redesigned. To help technicians be aware of the design changes and what these changes mean to the collision repair industry, General Motors (GM) has worked with I-CAR to develop a course.

Differences in the materials and design are something to take note of in comparison to previous years. Use of adhesives and other attachment methods also differs from previous years as well as from the light duty models. There is increased use of high-strength steels in the HD model as opposed to the light duty models. The whole unitized structure of the 2500 and 3500 is steel, along with the body panels.

These trucks were designed with repairability in mind and feature an extensive amount of repair procedures throughout the vehicle. The front-end module has greatly changed how this vehicle is repaired after a front-end collision. Other features to keep an eye on is the Sierra’s MultiPro aluminum tailgate, and whether or not the box is factory equipped for a fifth wheel or gooseneck hitch.

Attention is also given to the various advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) that can be found on the Silverado/Sierra, along with their calibration procedures if applicable. The 2020 Silverado/Sierra may come equipped with a camera system not featured in previous GM vehicles. The transparent trailer and rearview mirror camera system allows for the driver to connect trailer cameras to the vehicle, so the driver can see what is behind the trailer.
