Sectioning and Partial Part Replacement: 2017 BMW X5

One of the top technical inquiries received at Ask I-CAR, “Is there a sectioning or partial replacement procedure available?” To help answer this question, RTS has an OEM Partial Part Replacement Search available. Here you will find information on if these procedures are available on a specific vehicle. Let’s take a closer look at the 2017 BMW X5.

The OEM Partial Part Replacement Search page for the 2017 BMW X5 can be viewed on the I-CAR website. This will give you a good understanding on general areas for sectioning or partial replacement. I-CAR does not have permission to show exact locations for sectioning or the procedure itself. However, BMW has a paid subscription website with collision repair information.

Sectioning for the X5 is available in multiple locations for both the front lower rail and the upper rail. Open butt joints with backing are used for the sectioning joints. The rear rail only has a single sectioning location, which requires a butt joint with backing.

The outer uniside allows for sectioning in multiple locations, including the outer A-pillar, outer B-pillar, and the outer quarter panel. The outer quarter panel uses an adhesive butt joint with backing instead of a welded seam. There is a special procedure and parts for completing the sectioning joint. There are no sectioning procedures for the rear body panel. The trunk floor has multiple locations for partial part replacement.
