Identifying The Correct Body Repair Manual: Nissan/INFINITI

Vehicle makers may group their body repair manuals (BRM) in several different ways. Sometimes the BRMs are grouped by a year range, some are listed as VIN specific, and others are arranged by a body code. Let’s take a look at Nissan/INFINITI to see how they group their BRMs.

Nissan/INFINITI has a body code for each model, which identifies the generation of the body style for each vehicle. For example, the 2019 Nissan Altima has a body code of L34. This means that any other Nissan Altima, regardless of year, with the code of L34, has the same body style and BRM. However, a 2018 Nissan Altima has a body code of L33 which is the previous generation and a separate BRM. The code can be found at the top of each manual next to the model name.

Body codes are important when it comes to ordering parts, looking up repair procedures, and measuring the vehicle. This is especially true when a vehicle maker continues to build a previous generation model, while the new generation model is being produced as well. This means, for example, both vehicles could be a 2019, but with two different body styles, different body codes, and unique repair procedures and cautions.
