Honda 1500 MPa Welding

When Honda updated the Body Repair News: Body Repair Manual Welding & Sectioning Guideline Revisions in July there is a piece of information you may have missed. Let’s take a look.

Previously, Honda forbid plug welding on 1,500 MPa steel. Now however, the repair requirements where specified, have changed. When the document was updated it included: “MAG plug welding is now allowed on 1,500 MPa (hot stamp) steel parts in select locations only as specified in the BRM.”

To clarify, this is not a general statement allowing 1,500 MPa to be plug welded where we want, it is only in very select areas. For example, the rear rail on 2017 Honda Civic 4-door, there are only a couple plug welds on the entire part with specific locations identified for each weld.
