Sectioning and Partial Part Replacement: 2017 Mazda CX-9

One of the top technical inquiries received at Ask I-CAR, “Is there a sectioning or partial replacement procedure available?” To help answer this question, RTS has an OEM Partial Part Replacement Search available. Here you will find information on if these procedures are available on a specific vehicle. Let’s take a closer look at the 2017 Mazda CX-9.

The full OEM Partial Part Replacement Search page for the 2017 Mazda CX-9 can be found on the I-CAR website. This will give you a good understanding on general areas for sectioning or partial replacement. I-CAR does not have permission to show exact locations for sectioning or the procedure itself. However, Mazda does have a repair information website with collision repair information.

The CX-9 has a sectioning procedure for the front lower rail. This procedure will allow replacement of the front half of the inner and outer front lower rails. The sectioning joint will be an open butt joint with chamfered edges. Mazda also includes partial part replacement at factory seams for the front lower rail and rear rail in single locations, along with multiple partial replacement procedures for the upper rail. The rear rail partial replacement procedure requires the trunk floor to be sectioned. However, the CX-9 offers multiple partial replacement procedures for the trunk floor. Also, a procedure for replacing the rear body panel is available.

The outer uniside has multiple sectioning procedures which include outer A-pillar, outer B-pillar, and outer quarter panel. The inner A-pillar and the A-pillar reinforcement both have sectioning locations in the windshield opening areas.
