I-CAR Repairers Realm: RAM ProMaster Hinge Pillar Repair - Now Available

I-CAR had a discussion on RAM ProMaster hinge pillar repair.

In January's episode of Repairers Realm, I-CAR subject matter experts were joined by Lynn Rogers from FCA/Stellantis to discuss the hinge pillar repair on the RAM ProMaster van. He identified the reason for the repair, explained OEM approved repair options, and discussed an OEM solution to help prevent the damage.

Questions answered in this episode include:

  • Is this repair optional?
  • Are there pre-made patch panels available?
  • What is needed to prep the vehicle for this repair?
  • What type of weld seam is used on the patch panel?
  • What welding wire should be used?
  • Are there alternative repair methods being used in the industry in place of this repair?
  • Why has FCA/Stellantis started adding videos to procedures?
  • Should weld-through primer be used?
  • Should heat sinks be used while welding the patches?
  • Does adhesive need to fully cure before welding?
  • Should the outer edge of the patch be beveled?
