One-Time-Use Parts And Fasteners: Genesis

What is a one-time-use part, and how do you determine if a fastener, clip, or part can be reused? These are questions that we are confronted with in the collision industry quite a lot. The other big question is "Where do I find this information"?

As the Repairability Technical Support (RTS) team researches OEMs for one-time-use fastener/part information, we are putting together a series of articles on how and where to locate this information for specific OEMs. Let’s take a look at Genesis.

Found in: General Information ➤ General Service information ➤ General Information, Genesis states:

"If removed, the following parts should always be replaced with new ones.

  1. Oil seals
  2. Gaskets
  3. O-rings
  4. Lock washers
  5. Cotter pins (split pins)
  6. Plastic nuts"

Genesis utilizes a blue "Notice" header for information that helps prevent errors that could damage the vehicle. This is where you may find one-time-use fastener information called out within a procedure.

For example, in a 2023 Genesis G80 rear shock absorber procedure, there is a notice that states: "Do not reuse the bolt."

Following OEM procedures, including the identification and use of one-time-use fasteners/parts, is important in order to help ensure a complete, safe, and quality repair.
