Back-To-Basics: Plug Weld Prep Using A Spot Blaster

Sometimes going back-to-basics can make the difference between a quality repair and a failed repair. Plug weld prep is not only a key factor in a successful repair, but also in productivity.

There are many great ways to clean and prepare a plug weld area during panel installation. For example, using a:

  • Stainless-steel brush
  • Drill bit ground flat
  • Fiber wheel
  • Rivet shaver

Another solution is to use something that you may already have access to, a spot blaster. This tool can create a seal around the plug weld area not only cleaning the base material but also the surrounding area.

While it’s possible to clean the area in other ways, a spot blaster can make it that much faster and easier.
