Digital Key Considerations: Ford/Lincoln

The intermingling of technology and automobiles continues, with digital key offerings from most vehicle makers. Digital keys utilize smartphone technology to expand vehicle access and owner convenience. How does this affect repairs? Let’s take a look at what Ford/Lincoln has to offer.

Ford/Lincoln offers ways to gain access and start their vehicles besides a physical key or key fob, such as Phone As A Key as part of their App-Based Connected Services Considerations: Ford/Lincoln. There are resources to aid in determining which models may utilize this feature:

Information about Phone As A Key is included in various areas of vehicle-specific Workshop Manuals (WSM); system-specific information and procedures are found under 4: Electrical ➤ 19: Electronic Feature Group ➤ 419 Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) - Vehicles with: Phone as a Key.

Per the Bluetooth Front Exterior Antenna removal and Installation procedure, “Using the diagnostic scan tool, carry out the remote function actuator (RFA) module self test.”

In the service information, Ford/Lincoln references the vehicle-specific owner’s manual for additional details, if needed. These manuals are under the Owner Info tab at the top of the Workshop Manual.
