2016 SEMA - Ford F-150 Box Side Replacement: UPDATE

For those of you that weren’t able to attend the 2016 SEMA show there was a live demonstration on replacing the aluminum box side on the Ford F-150. But luckily Collision Hub’s cameras were rolling. Let’s take a look at the video.

I-CAR and Shawn Collins from 3M delivered the demonstration. In the video, Shawn walks you through the process for replacing the box side as well as some helpful tips that will save you some trouble when the first one comes across your path.

UPDATE: In late 2020, Ford revised the F-150 outer box side replacement procedures to now include the use of self-piercing rivets (SPRs) in specified locations. This change only applies to the 2015-2020 F-150. Super Duty trucks will not be able to use SPRs for the repair procedure.

This change is due to a newly sourced SPR that makes the outer box side repair with SPRs possible. Ford has updated the procedure in the vehicle-specific Workshop manuals but not the instruction sheets. In addition to the SPRs, blind rivets or plug welds are still an option in the specified locations.
