I-CAR Just In Time: Steering Knuckle Damage Inspection And Inner Tie Rod Damage

Sometimes seeing is understanding, that’s why I-CAR's technical team created the Just in Time video series to guide you through a variety of collision repair topics from ADAS and EVs to repair tips and tricks. These videos enable you to, in less than 5 minutes, learn something new. Let’s check out what the team has added for steering knuckle damage inspection and inner tie rod damage.

It can be difficult to determine if steering and suspension components are damaged. Watch Jason Hauboldt, I-CAR Senior Associate and Subject Matter Expert, inspect a steering knuckle for damage using a common carpenter's square.

Inner tie rods are partially hidden behind a dust boot that protects the component from the elements. The boot also makes inspecting "clunks" or "sloppy" steering difficult. If all other components are in proper working order, do not forget to check the inner tie rod for damage.
