As part of the I-CAR Repairability Technical Support (RTS) OEM linking pin activity, we are helping to connect the collision repair industry to the vehicle makers. We received technical inquiries asking, “Are there instructions available for the change to the airbag impact sensor installation on a replacement door?” We reached out to Ford/Lincoln for clarification.
Our contact at Ford/Lincoln confirmed that modifications may be required for the replacement of the front and rear doors on the 2018-2024 Lincoln Navigator and 2018-2027 Ford Expedition.
Instructions for the required modifications to the door shell and the drilling template should be included with the purchase of a new OEM door. If instructions are not included, be sure to reach out to the dealer where it was purchased.
Modifications require drilling holes or slots to install outer trim or other parts, such as the airbag impact sensor.
Ford/Lincoln also calls out 3M Venture Tape 1581A and replacement fasteners when installing the airbag impact sensor to a new door.
