Rivian Position Statement: Reconditioned Wheels

The wheels on the vehicle are damaged, what type of repairs can be done, if any? And is it okay to use a reconditioned wheel? Let’s see what Rivian has to say.

Per the Rivian Reconditioned Wheels position statement:

  • "Rivian does not support or approve the use of “reconditioned” (damaged and repaired) wheels. Reconditioning of damaged wheels may include heating, straightening, welding, material removal, reshaping, repair of the metal, or re-plating, which can affect the strength of the wheel."
  • "Rivian approves minor wheel repairs that are limited to surface sanding and cosmetic refinishing processes that remove and replace only paint coatings. Do not refinish wheel surfaces where the lug nuts secure it to the vehicle, or mating surfaces to the wheel hub."

Knowing what the OEM allows and doesn’t allow helps to ensure a safe and quality repair.
