Restraints System Mounting Location Repairability: Tesla
When repairing Tesla vehicles, it is important to read repair guidelines in the body repair manual, especially when it comes to repairing parts or panels that impact sensors are mounted to. Let’s see what Tesla has to say.
If a part that the impact sensor, airbag, or seatbelt is mounted to is repaired, it could affect the restraint system’s ability to function as designed. This is a safety risk for passengers in the vehicle. Tesla specifies that these parts should be replaced.
For example, per the 2025 Tesla Model Y collision repair manual ➤ General Repair Guidelines ➤ Body Structure Materials and Allowed Operations document: "Do not perform repairs on damage to body or structural components in the vicinity of safety related components such as airbags, seatbelts, impact sensors, intrusion beams etc. (replace the damaged body or structural component instead)."
Knowing these specifications and following OEM procedures will help ensure a complete, safe, and quality repair.
