BMW Position Statement: Pre- and Post-Repair System Scanning - UPDATE

BMW has released a position statement related to pre- and post-repair system scanning. The statement applies to All vehicles equipped with on board diagnostics II (OBD II).

BMW has a Service Information Bulletin (SIB 41 05 19), Preliminary Diagnostics For Collision Repairs, document that addresses pre- and post-repair scans (vehicle diagnostic tests). The SIB states, "BMW vehicles can incorporate numerous control modules, sensors, and cameras that assist in various functions within the vehicle. During a collision, these systems can sustain damage in ways that are not visually evident. These components must be evaluated to ensure the vehicle is repaired in a manner that complies with BMW Repair Standards/Guidelines. A damaged component may have a direct effect on the vehicle operation."
