Locating OEM-Approved HV Tools: Toyota/Lexus

When researching procedures for disabling a high-voltage (HV) vehicle, you may notice that many of the procedures require the use of specific tools. Some of them are OEM-specific tools or scan tools. Often identifying and locating where to purchase these specific tools can be difficult.

The RTS team is researching how to find these tools to make it easier for technicians performing these procedures. As we research the location of these special tools, we are compiling the information in a series of OEM-specific articles.

Toyota/Lexus HV tools can be found using the following steps:

  1. Go to techinfo.toyota.com
  2. Click on the link for Special Service Tools (bottom of log in page)
  3. A new window will open
  4. Click Toyota/Scion or Lexus
  5. Once website opens, click HEV Battery Tools (left side of page)

When disabling Toyota/Lexus high-voltage systems, the use of a scan tool may be required to find DTCs and faults in the HV system.

Some HV disabling procedures also require the use of a high-voltage DVOM to check voltage after the HV system has been disabled. Required tools and equipment are typically specified in vehicle-specific procedures.

Always follow OEM procedures when repairing HV vehicles. Make sure to check procedures for the required tools to help ensure a complete, safe, and quality repair.
