Sectioning and Partial Part Replacement: 2018 Fiat 124 Spider

One of the top technical inquiries received at Ask I-CAR is, “Is there a sectioning or partial replacement procedure available?” To help answer this question, RTS has an OEM Partial Part Replacement Search available. Here you will find information on if these procedures are available on a specific vehicle. Let’s take a closer look at the 2018 Fiat 124 Spider.

The full OEM Partial Part Replacement Search page for the 2018 Fiat 124 Spider can be viewed on the I-CAR website. This will give you a good understanding on general areas for sectioning or partial replacement. I-CAR does not have permission to show exact locations for sectioning or the procedure itself. However, Fiat has a paid and free subscription website with collision repair information.

The front lower and upper rail do not have sectioning procedures but can be partially replaced at factory seams. The rear rail has multiple locations where it can be partially replaced at factory seams as well. Installation procedures of these rails call for GMA plug welding, and spot welding.

The outer uniside has a single location where it can be sectioned, and a new portion installed using GMA seam welds and spot welds. The uniside reinforcement, inner uniside, and trunk floor cannot be sectioned. The trunk floor, however, has multiple locations where it can be partially replaced at factory seams, and installed using GMA plug welds.
