OEM Linking Pin: Subaru Spot Weld Settings

Recently, a repair facility had a question on how to set up a spot welder for a Subaru repair procedure. I-CAR Repairability Technical Support (RTS) reached out to Subaru for clarification.

The question came up on the setting, “Welding time: 25 cyc.” This caused confusion because there was no setting on the spot welder having “cyc” as a time measurement. Subaru shared that “cyc” stood for cycle, which is the wave cycles of electrical current. In countries that use 60 hertz electricity (North America), the time it takes for one cycle to occur is about 16 milliseconds.

By using a little math, 16 milliseconds X 25 cyc = 400 milliseconds, or 0.4 seconds. One of these measurements of time can then be manually entered into the spot welder settings depending on which is used. It is also a good idea to keep a record of the settings used in the repair file documentation.
