Calibration After Windshield Replacement

The automotive glass industry had reached out to the Repairability Technical Support (RTS) team previously with questions on OEM glass replacement requirements. This led to the OEM Glass Replacement articles, which are available for free on the RTS Portal. Recently, the team was contacted again asking for clarification on when calibration is required, specifically with a windshield replacement.

A great tool to answer these types of questions is the I-CAR OEM Calibration Requirements Search. You can search by year/make/model or any combination of these. Currently we have 2016-2024 models available. Our search tool has information on:

  • If a DTC may be set for a camera or sensor.
  • Location(s) of any cameras and/or sensors.
  • The events that will necessitate calibration (such as removing the glass or replacing a camera/sensor).
  • If special tools are required for calibration.
  • If a scan tool is required for calibration.
  • The name of the cameras and/or sensors used in the OEM repair information

This information can then be printed off as a PDF to provide documentation of the required next steps.

The OEM Calibration Requirements Search does NOT contain:

  • The repair procedures for calibrating systems. (access to OEM information is required for the correct procedures)
  • A list of part numbers for the special tools.
  • Any information that could take the place of OEM information.

By using this tool, you can quickly identify if a calibration is required. This also aids in the process of researching the repair information, educating the customer, and scheduling an appointment as required for any additional procedures.
