Warning of Phishing Scam

I-CAR has been informed that there are emails circulating that appear to be from I-CAR referencing invoices. If you receive an email that looks suspicious, do NOT download any of the attachments, do NOT click on any of the links, and do NOT reply to the email. Phishing emails are in no way affiliated with I-CAR. I-CAR has no way of controlling these emails as they are not coming from I-CAR, but from a different source disguised as I-CAR. A good way to know if the email is a scam is to watch out for:

Issue: Example Notes

Spelling/grammar errors

Do you want a partial waiver for the $2,270.28 that is 70 days out or a final and combine both invoices 3188 and 9646.
Let me know and I can get either one sent over to you.
Thanks

If the sentence does not read correctly or there are odd spelling errors, it can be an indication.

Threats of penalties for not paying

If payment is not recieved in the next 30 days a late fee of $500.00 will be added to the current invoice. Thanks!

If it seems odd, be suspicious.

Notices of late invoices/payments

Per our conversation, inserted is the current account statement showing the three past due invoices. I would appreciate it If you could check on it and let me know when we can expect payment. Thanks!

If it seems odd, be suspicious.

Email address that doesn't end with @i-car.com

I-CAR Conference (scheduling@fusiondentalspecialists.com)

Email addresses should make sense.

Email addresses that do not match the sender

Sender is displayed as "ask@i-car.com," but is actually sending email to different address "nwaccounts@timbermart.ca"

If in doubt, type the correct email address manually to inquire about the email.

Text links in emails that don't match the URL

Per our conversation, inserted is the current account statement showing the three past due invoices. I would appreciate it If you could check on it and let me know when we can expect payment. Thanks!
http://i-car.com/Paid-Invoices/
actual URL is http://proyectosalji.com/Paid-Invoices/

Hover over the link without clicking it to display the real URL.

Attachments that seem odd

An example is an attachement displayed as a pdf, but is actually a different file type.

If you are unsure if an e-mail you received from I-CAR is suspicious, contact our customer care at (800) 422-7872 to confirm if it is an I-CAR authorized communication.
