Mitsubishi Glass Replacement Requirements

The role of the windshield is a lot more complex than simply allowing a view of the road ahead. It is considered a structural part of the vehicle as it contributes to the strength of the roof and A-pillars. The windshield helps to manage collision energy and has become an integral part of several advanced safety systems.

It is commonly asked, "What is required when replacing a windshield?" With this question in mind, we will be presenting a series of articles that highlight some of the requirements from the various OEMs. As always, it is important to read through each vehicle-specific procedure to ensure a complete, safe, and quality repair.

Let’s see what Mitsubishi has to say for the 2016-2024 model year.

  • Mitsubishi identifies 3M 08609 Super Fast Urethane Auto Glass Sealant or equivalent.
  • Mitsubishi identifies 3M 08608 Super Fast Urethane Primer or equivalent.
  • It is important to stay within the same product line for the primer and adhesive. Refer to the product maker’s directions for curing time and do not use adhesive after its expiration date.
  • Mitsubishi specifies the use of a special tool, MB990480 window glass holder, when removing stationary glass.
  • Calibration of the camera near the rearview mirror (FCM/LDW/AHB-ECU) is required.

Vehicles equipped with a lighting control sensor (rain sensor) will need to have the systems initialized. The initialization and windshield removal and installation procedures can be found at: www.mitsubishitechinfo.com. After entering the year and model, go to: Service Manual ➤ Click Here to view an Alphabetical Category of topics in the Service Manual ➤ Removal, Replacement and Installation ➤ then select the appropriate procedure.
