Genesis Glass Replacement Requirements

The role of the windshield is a lot more complex than simply allowing a view of the road ahead. It is considered a structural part of the vehicle as it contributes to the strength of the roof and A-pillars. The windshield helps to manage collision energy and has become an integral part of several advanced safety systems.

It is commonly asked, "What is required when replacing a windshield?" With this question in mind, we will be presenting a series of articles that highlight some of the requirements from the various OEMs. As always, it is important to read through each vehicle-specific procedure to ensure a complete, safe, and quality repair.

Let’s see what Genesis has to say for the various 2017-2024 model years:

  • Genesis does not identify a specific brand of glass primers or adhesives.
  • It is important to stay within the same product line for the primers and adhesive.
  • Refer to the product maker’s directions for curing time and do not use adhesive after its expiration date.
  • During removal or repair of flange, if the surface is damaged, apply paint or rust inhibitor for maintenance.
  • The Front View camera will require calibration if the windshield is removed/installed or replaced.

Per the Genesis Non-OEM Glass position statement: "Genuine Genesis glass in Genesis vehicles is designed and manufactured to provide proper fit, function, safety, and structural integrity. Use of non-genuine Genesis glass products may cause safety and technological systems to not function properly"
