One-Time-Use Parts And Fasteners: Honda/Acura

What is a one-time-use part, and how do you determine if a fastener, clip, or part can be reused? These are questions that we are confronted with in the collision industry quite a lot. The other big question is "Where do I find this information?"

As the Repairability Technical Support (RTS) team researches OEMs for one-time-use fastener/part information, we are putting together a series of articles on how and where to locate this information for specific OEMs. Let’s take a look at Honda/Acura

Once logged in to the service information site:

  1. Go to Service Info
  2. Select Model and Year
  3. Select Symptom/Repair Info from the dropdown
  4. Click Vehicle General Information
  5. Click Symbol Marks
  6. Click Search
  7. Choose Symbols from the results

This opens a chart that shows maintenance instructions and precautions. In the chart, there is a symbol of a black square with a white "X" in it. This is the symbol that indicates "replace".

In repair procedures, if an item needs to be replaced, it is identified with the "X" symbol and arrows extending to the exact part to replace. In addition, the written instructions include what new items are to be installed.

Following OEM procedures, including the identification and use of one-time-use fasteners/parts, is important in order to help ensure a complete, safe, and quality repair.
