Calibration Research Tips: RAM Drivers Assistance System Module

While searching for information on advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) on an OEM repair information site, you may come across unique calibration procedures or events. These events can vary by year and model, even within a particular make. As the RTS team has been researching these systems, we have been identifying these atypical circumstances. In order to help you better understand them, we put together a series of articles that help with the repair and calibration of ADAS. Let’s look at the RAM Drivers Assistance System Module (DASM).

While searching for ADAS components and calibration events on the service site, you may notice that there is no radar sensor on the front of the vehicle behind the front bumper cover/grille. This is because, unlike many models, there is no radar sensor behind the front bumper cover. Instead it is mounted on the inside of the windshield.

The DASM is a singular module that combines the radar sensor and camera. It is typically used for the following systems:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Adaptive lighting
  • Collision warning
  • Collision braking
  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane keep assist

The camera “sees” and recognizes lane markings and vehicles in front, while the radar sensor detects the distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead.

DASM information is found under Electrical in the Electronic Control Modules category of the service manual. Here you will find removal and installation procedures, as well as a calibration procedure. Although the service information calls it module programming, it is calibration. The calibration requires the use of a scan tool and a digital inclinometer. No driving is specified as part of the calibration.

It is important to always follow OEM procedures for repairs and calibration. Finding this information quickly and efficiently contributes to a complete, safe, and quality repair.
