Advanced Driver Assistance Systems: 2019 INFINITI QX60

While many have noticed that advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) are showing up on vehicles, there still is confusion on what is required of these systems after a collision occurs. The Ask I-CAR team frequently gets questions in regard to calibration of ADAS. Many of these questions can be answered simply by using the OEM Calibration Requirements Search. However, there are some questions that may need more details than the calibration search provides. Let’s take a look at the 2019 INFINITI QX60.

For 2019, the INFINITI QX60 offers park assist and 360 camera view as part of their Around View Monitor system. They also offer adaptive cruise control (intelligent cruise control), collision warning (predictive forward collision warning), collision braking (forward emergency braking and backup collision intervention), blind spot detection (blind spot warning), rear cross traffic (rear cross traffic alert ), lane departure warning/ lane keep assist (lane departure warning /lane departure prevention and blind spot intervention), and rear view systems (rear view monitor). This means that there is a large array of cameras and sensors that collision repairers will need to be aware of, many of which will require calibrations. Located in the front bumper are ultrasonic sensors. There are additional ultrasonic sensors located in the rear bumper. These sensors are used by the park assist system. Calibration is not required for these sensors. However, the sensors must be oriented in the correct position when installed.

Behind the front bumper, a radar sensor is attached just underneath the bumper reinforcement. This sensor sends information to the adaptive cruise control, collision warning, and collision braking systems. Certain events require a static calibration for this sensor.

Located in the INFINITI emblem, in the grille, is the front camera that is part of the 360° camera view system. This four-camera system also has cameras located on the bottom of each exterior side mirror. A final camera is located in the liftgate above the license plate. The liftgate camera is also used for the rear view system. There are several events that will make calibration necessary for these cameras. The calibration procedure for these cameras is a static calibration.

In front of the rearview mirror, attached to the windshield, is a forward-facing camera. This camera sends data to the collision warning, collision braking, and lane departure warning/lane keep assist (LDW/LKA) systems. There are several events that make calibration necessary for this camera. This is a static calibration procedure.

Located behind the rear bumper cover, mounted to the quarter panels, are radar sensors. These sensors are used by the blind spot detection and rear cross traffic systems. There are no calibration events for these sensors. However, INFINITI states to always perform the blind spot warning/rear cross traffic alert system action tests after the radar sensor has been removed or replaced.
