Repairer Driven News: BMW Reminder To Check OEM Procedures
Repairer Driven News (RDN) released an article on BMW vehicles and the importance of checking and following OEM procedures.
The article emphasizes that reading the OEM procedures is important not only to know what work has to be performed, but to also know what operations don’t need to be done. This is not just applicable to the repairer, but to the estimator and adjuster as well.
The article discusses park assist sensors and states:
- They do not require calibration
- They cannot be refinished
- They will trigger a DTC if disconnected
The article also stresses that not all components, radar modules for example, can be detected by simply looking at the vehicle, many of these crucial components are behind bumper covers and other parts. Using OEM information to confirm certain components exist will limit certain repair and refinishing operations.
Panel preparation for bonding is also discussed. Clear distinctions are made between prepping a new part and prepping a part that remains on the vehicle.
