Audi Glass Replacement Requirements

Audi Glass Replacement Requirements

The role of the windshield is a lot more complex than simply allowing a view of the road ahead. It is considered a structural part of the vehicle as it contributes to the strength of the roof and A-pillars. The windshield helps to manage collision energy and has become an integral part of several advanced safety systems.

It is commonly asked; what is required when replacing a windshield? With this question in mind, we will be presenting a series of articles that highlight some of the requirements from various OEMs. Let’s see what Audi has to say.

The information that we are looking for can be found in vehicle-specific Audi body repair manuals. For 2016 model year vehicles:

  • Audi specifies its own product line of cleaning solution, adhesive, activator, and primer for bonded glass.
  • Be sure to refer to the urethane manufacturer’s directions for curing time specifications, and do not use adhesive after its expiration date.
  • It is important to note that Audi also has a list of special tools and workshop equipment that is required.

Audi has several special cautions to be aware of, especially with vehicles equipped with a rain/light sensor and forward facing camera.

  • The installation of rain/light sensor will require that there are no embedded objects or bubbles between the sensor and connecting pad. If a new rain/light sensor is being installed, it will need to have the Rain/Light Recognition Sensor G397 coding completed. The full rain/light sensor replacement procedure is in the vehicle-specific Electrical Equipment manual.
  • The forward-facing camera will need to have the camera calibrated in order for the Lane Keep Assist system to function properly. A detailed calibration procedure is provided in the vehicle-specific Suspension, Wheels, Steering service manual.
