Sectioning and Partial Part Replacement: 2017 Lincoln Continental

Here you will find information on if these procedures are available on a specific vehicle. Let’s take a closer look at the 2017 Lincoln Continental.
The full OEM Partial Part Replacement Search page for the 2017 Lincoln Continental can be viewed on the I-CAR website. This will give you a good understanding on general areas for sectioning or partial replacement. I-CAR does not have permission to show exact locations for sectioning or the procedure itself. However, Lincoln has a paid subscription website with collision repair information.
The Continental has sectioning available in multiple locations for the front lower rail. This sectioning joint requires a backer when installing the new front lower rail piece. In conjunction with the sectioning procedure is a partial replacement procedure for the front lower rail. The upper rail also has partial part replacement procedure(s) available. Lincoln issues a warning that the rear rails may not be sectioned and that partial replacement at factory seams is not available. This means that full rail replacement will be the only option.
Sectioning for the outer uniside is available to for the outer A-pillar, outer B-pillar, and outer quarter panel, along with more locations. Per the Lincoln body repair manual, “The use of a backing plate in sectioning joints may help in producing a quality weld repair. Backing plates may be cut from an unused portion of the original or replacement panel.” Sectioning in multiple locations is also available for the trunk floor.
