Locating ADAS Information: Subaru

As a collision repair technician, there is one part of a service manual that houses all of the information you would ever need…right? This is not the case with modern vehicles. You may be required to look in numerous manuals to find the information required to safely repair the vehicle.

The Repairability Technical Support Portal (RTS) has videos posted to show you how to navigate specific OEM body repair manuals (BRMs), but this sometimes just gets you in the door. If you are looking for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) information in the BRM, you may not find any information at all. ADAS information is not normally located in the body repair manual. You may have to go into the service manual to find ADAS or a separate manual altogether. Luckily, the RTS team has already navigated most of the OEM repair manuals and we’ve found the ADAS information. Let’s see where to find ADAS information from Subaru.

After accessing your subscription, look in the Quick Reference Search box, where you will see a box that says Choose Publication Type. Here you must select Service Diagnostics from the dropdown menu. Then enter the VIN and click search. Click the blue download arrow to the right of the document title. This will open the electronic service manual. Along the top border of the manual you will see different headers for different areas of the manual in gray writing. The majority of the ADAS systems will be under the Body & Electrical /WIRING SYSTEMS header.

Almost every available ADAS system will have its own header on the left menu. The header titled Eyesight, controls lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and collision warning/braking system along with providing inputs to other systems. Blind Spot Detection/Rear Cross Traffic Alert is where you find information for the sensors located behind the rear bumper cover. Reverse Automatic Braking is the location for the sensors in the rear bumper cover. Finally, after selecting ENTERTAINMENT & MONITORING there is an option for Camera. Here is where front and rear camera information is found.
