Locating ADAS Information: GM

Locating ADAS Information: GM

As a collision repair technician, there is one part of a service manual that houses all of the information you would ever need…right? This is not the case with modern vehicles. You may be required to look in numerous manuals to find the information required to safely repair the vehicle.

The Repairability Technical Support Portal (RTS) has videos posted to show you how to navigate specific OEM body repair manuals (BRMs), but this sometimes just gets you in the door. If you are looking for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) information in the BRM, you may not find any information at all. ADAS information is not normally located in the body repair manual. You may have to go into the service manual to find ADAS or a separate manual altogether. Luckily, the RTS team has already navigated most of the OEM repair manuals and we’ve found the ADAS information. Let’s see where to find ADAS information from General Motors (GM).

GM has recently changed where the ADAS information is located for 2018 models. Previous to the 2018 model year to find ADAS information you would enter the repair manual by following the instructions in Step-By-Step: Accessing General Motors Repair Information. Then instead of selecting the Body Repair option, select Safety and Security. Followed by Object Detection and Pedestrian Protection, here is where all of the ADAS information will be found.

For 2018 and new models, the ADAS systems have been separated into different areas of the manual. Information for video type cameras (excluding forward facing camera) is found in Driver Information and Entertainment, then Image Display Cameras. Parking assist systems are in Safety and Security then Parking Assistance Systems. All remaining ADAS information is found by selecting Safety and Security, followed by Driver Assistance Systems. This is where you will find information on systems such as blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and collision braking.
