Hybrid And Electric Vehicle Precautions: 2020 Honda Accord Hybrid

There are many precautions and instructions to follow while inspecting and repairing hybrid and electric vehicles. To help you find this information, RTS has an OEM Hybrid And Electric Vehicle Disable Search page. Here you will find step-by-step instructions on how to find the disable procedure in the service manual. You will also find precautions for welding, refinishing, and if a scan tool and DVOM are required for disabling. Let’s take a look at the 2020 Honda Accord Hybrid.

The full 2020 Honda Accord Hybrid OEM Hybrid And Electric Vehicle Disable Search page can be viewed on the I-CAR website. This will give you a good understanding on precautions needed while inspecting and repairing the vehicle. I-CAR does not have permission to show procedures. However, Honda has a paid subscription website with hybrid disabling and service procedures.

There are many things to keep in mind while inspecting and repairing vehicles equipped with a high-voltage (HV) system, as opposed to a vehicle with a 12 V battery system and a gasoline engine. This is why it is important to follow the procedure on the OEM service site.

Here are some examples of the type of information you will find in the 2020 Honda Accord Hybrid Electric Powertrain Service Precautions document:

  • "Strong impact (i.e., dropping the high voltage battery, collision damage) may cause electrolyte leaks, internal short circuits and heat increase resulting in fire. Avoid impact to the high voltage battery.
  • Do not disassemble the battery module when doing a repair or replacement procedure."

The service manual also states that a scan tool and a high-voltage DVOM is needed to disable the HV battery system.

Always follow the OEM procedure for disabling an HV system to help ensure a complete, safe, and quality repair.
