Sectioning and Partial Part Replacement: 2017 Chevrolet Malibu

One of the top technical inquiries received at Ask I-CAR is “Is there a sectioning or partial replacement procedure available?” To help answer this question, RTS has an OEM Partial Part Replacement Search available. Here you will find information on if these procedures are available on a specific vehicle. Let’s take a closer look at the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu.

The full OEM Partial Part Replacement Search page for the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu can be viewed on the I-CAR website. This will give you a good understanding on general areas for sectioning or partial replacement. I-CAR does not have permission to show exact locations for sectioning or the procedure itself. However, Chevrolet has a paid subscription website with collision repair information.

The front lower rails and front upper rails both have single locations in which they can be partially replaced at factory seams. However, neither of these rails have sectioning locations. Unlike the front lower and the front upper rails, the rear rail has only a single location where it can be sectioned. It also has no partial replacements at factory seams.

The outer uniside and the inner uniside have sectioning procedures available. The trunk floor, however, only has one location where it can be sectioned. In addition, the rear body panel can only be partially replaced at factory seams. Most procedures in the body repair manual call for STRSW when possible, and GMA plug/seam welding.
