What Is This Vehicle Made Of, And Can It Be Fixed?

With the use of advanced materials constantly increasing, it is hard to know where to start. I-CAR has addressed the first step to this common issue with the first two columns in the OEM Technical Information Matrix: the Body Construction Materials Identification column and the Body Construction Material Repair Guidelines column. Let's take a brief look at each one.

Body Construction Materials Identification
In this column we indicate whether the OEM has information on exterior and body structure materials - steel, aluminum, and plastic. Knowing if this kind of information exists before searching for it will save valuable time.

Body Construction Material Repair Guidelines
In this column we indicate whether the OEM has general repair information on material specifics. If the answer in this section is yes, then the OEM provides information like: UHSS 780 MPa and higher - No heating, limited cold straightening, and preferred attachment method is squeeze-type resistance spot welding (STRSW).

Continue to check back as this information will be updated and expanded in the near future.
