Advanced Driver Assistance Systems: 2019 Subaru Crosstrek

While many have noticed that advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) are showing up on vehicles, there still is confusion on what is required of these systems after a collision occurs. The Ask I-CAR team frequently gets questions in regard to calibration of ADAS. Many of these questions can be answered simply by searching the OEM Calibration Requirements Search. However, there are some questions that may need more details than the calibration search provides. Let’s take a look at the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek ADAS.

For 2019, the Crosstrek comes standard with a rear view camera system. Available on the Crosstrek are blind spot detection, adaptive cruise control, collision warning, collision braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, park assist, adaptive lighting, and rear cross traffic. This means that there is a large array of cameras and sensors that collision repairers will need to be aware of, many of which will require calibrations. Information for when these calibrations are required can be found in the vehicle specific repair information, and also on the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek OEM Calibration Requirements Search page.

Unlike most OEMs, Subaru uses a non-traditional system for many of its ADAS. Instead of utilizing a front radar system, the Crosstrek uses dual cameras located at the top of the windshield. Subaru calls this camera system “Eyesight”. The Eyesight cameras give input to the collision warning/braking systems, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. Calibration is required for these cameras.

Located behind the rear bumper cover, there is a radar sensor on each side. The sensors contribute information to the blind spot detection and rear cross traffic systems. Calibration will be required for these sensors.

In the rear bumper cover, are four ultrasonic park assist sensors. These sensors give data to the park assist system and also control Subaru’s reverse automatic braking system. Calibration is required for these sensors.

Finally, located in the rear deck lid is another camera. This camera is for the rear view camera system. Calibration is required for this camera.
