Volkswagen: Repair Procedure Designations

While looking through a Volkswagen body repair manual (BRM), you may notice that there are multiple instances of the same procedure, but with different titles. These titles, or designations, are to ensure the correct procedure is used when repairing the vehicle. This is because one vehicle can be manufactured in multiple ways, and may even use different materials, depending on what country the vehicle is made for. There can even be models for the same region that are built differently.

Let’s take a look at the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan as an example. In the 2019 BRM you will see the following procedure designations:

  • LWB-EU-these procedures should be used for long wheelbase models in Europe.
  • LWB-these procedures should be used for long wheelbase models in America.
  • No procedure designations-this means there is no variance in the procedure, regardless of the country of destination or if it has a long wheelbase.

These are just a few examples of different procedure titles you will find in Volkswagen BRMs. You may notice other ones, like MEX or EU which are procedure designations for vehicles in Mexico or Europe.

It is important to read all parts of the procedure, including the title, to verify that the correct procedure is being used to help ensure a complete, safe, and quality repair.
