BMW Position Statement: Pre- and Post-Repair System Scanning - UPDATE

BMW has released a position statement related to pre- and post-repair system scanning. The statement applies to All vehicles equipped with on board diagnostics II (OBD II).

The BMW position statement, Service Information Bulletin (SIB 41 05 19), Preliminary Diagnostics For Collision Repairs, covers pre- and-post repair scans (vehicle diagnostic tests). The SIB states, "BMW vehicles can incorporate numerous control modules, sensors and cameras that assist in various functions within the vehicle. During a collision, these systems can sustain damage in ways that are not visually evident. These components must be evaluated to ensure the vehicle is repaired in a manner that complies with BMW Repair Standards / Guidelines. A damaged component may have a direct effect on the vehicle operation."
