Subaru Bulletin: Recommended Materials

Many times, OEMs reference the use of specific products. Often this information is included in the repair procedures. However, when it’s not, this information isn’t always easy to locate. Subaru has a bulletin, Recommend Material, available to assist you. Let’s take a look at where this bulletin can be found.

You will first need to log into the Subaru subscription-based website. Once logged in, you will need to click on Online Reference at the top of the page. From here, you have two different search options available:

  1. Enter bulletin number 01-167-08R into the Document Code, Literature@, or Bulletin # search field.

  2. Subaru Recommended Materials searchFigure 1The other option is to mark the check box by Technical Service Bulletin, under the Publication Type window and type in “Recommended Materials” in the Keyword/Tool# search field (see Figure 1).

Once you click on Search for either of these options, the bulletin will be available to download on the next screen. This service bulletin provides information on approved products, alternate products (if applicable), Subaru of America (SOA) part numbers, product descriptions, and package sizes. You will be able to find information on:

  • Powertrain fluids
  • Engine coolants
  • A/C refrigerant and compressor oils
  • Greases
  • Adhesives
  • Sealants

Following OEM procedures includes using specified product(s). Knowing where to find product information is essential to ensure a complete, safe, and quality repair.
