Advanced Driver Assistance Systems: 2019 Toyota Camry

While many have noticed that advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), are showing up on vehicles. There still is confusion on what is required of these systems after a collision occurs. The Ask I-CAR team frequently get questions in regard to calibration of ADAS. Many of these questions can be answered simply by searching the OEM Calibration Requirements Search. However, there are some questions that may need more details than the calibration search provides. Let’s take a look at the 2019 Toyota Camry ADAS.

If you get a 2019 Camry in your repair stall, you can be guaranteed that it will have ADAS equipped. For 2019, all trims of the Camry are fitted with rear view, collision warning, collision braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive lighting, and adaptive cruise control. As optional equipment there is a 360° camera view, blind spot detection, park assist, and rear cross traffic. This means that there is a large array of cameras and sensors that collision repairers will need to be aware of, many of which will require calibrations. Starting at the front of the vehicle, there are four ultrasonic sensors that collect data for the park assist system. In addition, there are another four ultrasonic sensors located in the rear bumper cover. These sensors are spaced out from one side of the bumper to the other. Calibration is required for this suite of sensors depending on different events.

Located just below the Toyota emblem in the grille is the front camera that is part of the 360° camera view system. This four-camera system has another camera located on the bottom of each exterior side mirror, looking down. A final camera is located on the trunk lid below the Toyota emblem, above the license plate. There are several events that will make calibration necessary for these cameras.

Attached to the backside of the front Toyota Emblem in the grille, is the front radar sensor. There are several events that will make calibration necessary for this sensor.

The forward-facing camera is located inside the vehicle at the top center of the windshield in front of the rearview mirror. Toyota states that the camera lens should never be touched and should replaced if it is. Other reasons for replacement include if the camera is struck, dropped, or has any foreign matter on it. If the camera bracket is damage it too must be replaced along with the windshield.

Behind the rear bumper cover bolted to the outer quarter panel there is a blind spot radar sensor on each side below the tail lamp. Toyota warns that the sensor should be replaced if it is subjected to any impact. Calibration for these sensors is required when certain events take place.

This is just a brief overview of some of the different required procedures for the 2019 Toyota Camry. Always consult the OEM repair information to get the exact information and procedures required to service the ADAS.
