Back-To-Basics: Test Driving For Wind Noise

Sometimes going back-to-basics can make the difference between a quality repair and a failed repair. When it comes to diagnosing and repairing wind noise and rattles, there are a few things to keep in mind.

A road test is typically done to check for, or pinpoint the cause of noise. A road test can be used to find the location of rattles and air leaks, or to identify turbulence that causes wind noise problems. It is important to replicate any of the situations in which the customer describes when wind noise and rattles occur. In the case of wind noise and rattles, it may be especially beneficial to have the customer drive the vehicle to point out the exact issue.

Once the problem is assessed, the repair process can begin. One part of the repair process for these issues that tends to be overlooked, is a test drive after repairs are complete to make sure the wind noise or rattles are not still present, and should be a part of every quality control check. The customer should also test drive the vehicle with the technician in order to ensure the issues are resolved.

A post-repair test drive is a very important process in ensuring a complete, safe, and quality repair.
