Sectioning and Partial Part Replacement: 2018 Honda Fit

One of the top technical inquiries received at Ask I-CAR is, “Is there a sectioning or partial replacement procedure available?” To help answer this question, RTS has an OEM Partial Part Replacement Search available. Here you will find information on if these procedures are available on a specific vehicle. Let’s take a closer look at the 2018 Honda Fit.

The full OEM Part Replacement Search page for the 2018 Honda Fit can be viewed on I-CAR’s website. This will give you a good understanding on general areas for sectioning or partial replacement. I-CAR does not have permission to show exact locations for sectioning or the procedure itself. However, Honda has a paid subscription website with collision repair information.

The Fit has a single sectioning location on the front lower rail, and multiple locations for partial part replacement at factory seams. The front upper rail also has procedure(s) available for partial part replacement at factory seams but does not have a sectioning procedure. The front lower rail requires MAG welding and plug welding for installation, as well as spot welding. Fillet welding is used for the front upper rail installation. The rear rail on the Fit has no sectioning procedures available, but does have a single partial replacement at factory seams.

There are multiple locations for sectioning available on the outer uniside. Installation procedures call for MAG welding and plug welding, as well as spot welding in some areas. Sectioning is not permitted on the uniside reinforcement or the inner uniside. There are no sectioning procedures available for the trunk floor, as well as the rear body panel. Even though there is no sectioning for the trunk floor, there are multiple locations where it can be replaced at factory seams.
