Great Designs in Steel 2018 Presentations: A Closer Look - 2019 RAM 1500

In case you missed it, David Reed, FCA US LLC and Paul Belanger, Gestamp presented Hot Stamped Steel One-Piece Door Ring in the All-New 2019 Ram 1500 at Great Designs in Steel 2018.

Once again, weight reduction and improved body construction were key takeaways for the all-new 2019 RAM 1500. Increased usage of high strength steels and aluminum results in an average vehicle weight reduction of 101 pounds.

A major change from the prior year models is the hot stamped, laser-welded blank door ring. This change also contributed to the vehicles overall weight reduction with the addition of advanced high-strength steel. The majority of the door ring (reinforcement) is now varying thicknesses of 1300 MPa, referred to as press-hardened steel (PHS) in the presentation.
