Body Construction And Material Repair Guidelines: Nissan/INFINITI

What is the MPa of the front lower rail? What is the outer uniside made of: steel, aluminum, or composite? Can heat be used to straighten or is it cold straightening only? What are the repair limitations? These are just some of the questions that the RTS team fields on a daily basis.

As we know, today's vehicles can be constructed from a wide variety of materials. Knowing if the OEM provides information on body construction materials and repair guidelines is a crucial step in providing a complete, safe, and quality repair. Let’s see what Nissan/INFINITI has to say.

After you access the body repair manual (BRM), you are able to locate the construction material breakdown under: Body Exterior, Doors, Roof & Vehicle Security ➤ Body Repair ➤ Repair Infomrmation ➤ Preparation ➤ Body Component Parts. Beneath this section are two sub-categories, Underbody Component Parts and Body Components Parts.

Each of these categories provides a numbered illustration showing the various vehicle components. Beneath the illustration is a table listing the components and construction type. It is important to note that some of the newer models also provide the MPa. For example, the 2017 Nissan Armada BRM does include the MPa with the following note beneath it:

  • "For the parts without a number described in the figure, it is supplied only with the assembly part that the part is included with."
  • Tensile strength column shows the largest strength value of a part in the component part."

Along with the material repair considerations provided in the BRM, Nissan also has a Body Repair Manual - Fundamentals - 2015 Edition. This manual is to be used in conjunction with the BRM. To locate this manual, enter "Fundamentals" into the Keyword search. Per our contact at Nissan, this manual is also to be used with INFINITI vehicles.
