The 2016 Toyota Mirai Is More Than Just a Fuel Cell Vehicle

There has been a lot of discussion in the media lately on fuel cell vehicles, but what few have discussed is the collision repair of these vehicles. So let's take a look into the not-too-distant future.

As an example, let's look at the 2016 Toyota Mirai. This vehicle has many of the advanced safety systems like lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control, which is becoming more and more common. It also has 1500 MPa steel reinforcement in the B-pillar and the roof rail in the vehicle structure.

The body repair manual for the Mirai is available. Toyota does not allow any straightening of steels with a tensile strength higher than 590 MPa. Complete part replacement will be the only option if these parts are damage.

One thing that may surprise you with this vehicle is that in addition to the hydrogen fuel cell, there is also a hybrid battery system in the vehicle as well. So, in addition to safely working with the fuel cell components, technicians will also have to work with the hybrid system of the vehicle.
