Stationary Glass Pinchweld Preparation - New Panel

When dealing with stationary glass, should I refinish the area where the urethane will be applied to a new pinchweld? Should I remove the E-coat in that area? Let's take a look at some pinchweld prep basics for new panel installation; like a quarter panel for example.

The bonding area on the replaced panel pinchweld should be masked before basecoat/clearcoat application. Solvents still need to escape even after baking the finish in a spraybooth. The bond of the new finish will not be at full strength and could develop a leak or worse, affect the overall structural integrity of the vehicle. Bare metal areas on the new pinchweld require application of the adhesive maker's bare metal body primer.

Also, keep as much of the E-coat intact on the pinchweld as possible. This will provide a layer of corrosion protection on the pinchweld. However, keep in mind that pinchweld primer application is required on the E-coat surface following the product maker's instructions.
